  • Greg Hipskind, owner and teacher at QC Rock Academy, passed away unexpectedly this past weekend. His friends and bandmates said his passion for music united local students and will be honored through continuing performances.  KWQC
  • The Davenport Public Library seeks donations for its annual Formal Wear Giveaway (over 100 participants benefited last year). Donations will help local residents access formal wear for upcoming events.  The Dispatch Argus
  • KWQC teams up with PUNCH and Friends of Martin Luther King to host a Blessing Box drive on MLK Day, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the KWQC Station on Brady Street, with donated items distributed Saturday mornings at the JB Young Center on North Main Street.  KWQC

  • A residential fire on Ripley Street Monday night displaced two local residents — officials are investigating the incident.  The Quad City Times

  • Davenport’s 53rd Street corridor is set to host two new projects: a 10,000-sqft retail center at 5133 Ravenwood Lane and a 30,000-sqft office/retail building at 4515 E. 52nd St. set for completion in 2026; Morgan Stanley will move into the second floor plus Bubba’s 33 restaurant is planned nearby.  Quad Cities Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Girl Scouts launched the 2026 cookie season yesterday with a new Exploremores sandwich cookie and classic favorites in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Priced at $6 per package, cookie sales will fund local programs, with booths open Feb. 6 to March 22 and orders via text COOKIES to 59618.  Quad Cities Business Journal
