- ➤ Davenport Public Library is asking for clean, gently used formal wear donations for the Night to Shine prom for people with special needs. Drop-off dates are Jan. 9, 10, 16, and 17 and the giveaway is set for Jan. 30 (2 to 5 p.m.) and Jan. 31 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). KWQC
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Officials determined that a mechanical equipment malfunction in the basement caused the Dec. 17 fire at Barrel House Restaurant; Davenport firefighters arrived at 6:20 a.m. + quickly controlled the blaze, though significant smoke damage forced the closure. KWQC

- ➤ Two Scott County businesses received over $1M in SBA loans in December, which helped create 55 new jobs and retain 316 in the Quad Cities area. King Products Inc. in Davenport received $338,300 and RDBR, LLC of Eldridge was awarded $665,000 (totaling $1,003,300), according to the SBA’s Iowa office. Quad Cities Business Journal

- ➤ Experts reported that nearly 40% of third graders in the region are not reading at grade level, which may affect their school success and future opportunities. Local institutions are offering free story times and one-on-one reading sessions to build strong early literacy skills. KWQC
- ➤ Augustana College has renamed its Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to the Office of the Vice President for Culture and Connection as part of its 10 Years of Becoming theme this year.
