  • Flip’s Pancake House opened its fifth Rock Island location at 2704 18th Avenue on Friday, and the restaurant is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting was held at noon.  KWQC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Quad-Cities St. Patrick Society will hold its 40th annual Grand Parade on Saturday, Mar. 14 at 11:30 a.m. on a designated route, marking a long-standing local tradition.  The Quad City Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce is accepting registrations for the 2026 Generation Next program for young professionals to build community skills. Registration closes Feb. 6 and the cohort will begin Feb. 18 with sessions from 1-5 p.m. through May (limited to 40 participants).  Quad Cities Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois and Iowa DOT invite residents to a second open house on Jan. 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Current on North Main to review improvement alternatives for the U.S. 67, Centennial Bridge Corridor Project (designed to guide long-term safety and traffic flow improvements).  KWQC

HEALTH NEWS

  • State inspectors reported multiple food-safety violations at restaurants across Iowa between Dec. 15 and Dec. 31, 2025 (including issues like improper cooling, expired food and unclean equipment). Davenport’s La Finca was among the local establishments cited.  KWQC
  • MercyOne Birth Centers welcomed 8,592 babies in 2025 across Iowa and Illinois, with MercyOne Genesis Davenport Medical Center recording 2,078 births (998 boys and 1,080 girls) while the Silvis campus saw a baby boom after Dr. May Yazeji joined in July 2024.  Quad Cities Business Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local kids took on key roles during the Quad City Storm’s second annual 'Kids Run the Show' hockey game Friday night at Vibrant Arena where they helped coaches, worked with the media team, and supported game-day operations. The event, a collaboration with Vibrant Credit Union and Junior Achievement of the Heartland, offered a behind-the-scenes look at sports management.  KWQC
  • The Highlight Zone returns this season to cover girls’ and boys’ high school basketball, showcasing top plays from local teams. Fans in Davenport can enjoy the action as the season begins.  KWQC
