- ➤ On Monday, The Stardust, a downtown event space that hosted nearly nine years of gatherings, announced on Facebook it would close due to a breakdown in contract negotiations with its landlord. KWQC

- ➤ Local artist Isaiah Williams completed a mural at Celebrity’s Beauty Supply that honors Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Madam C.J. Walker. Business owners Constance and Lonnie Westerfield commissioned the artwork to connect civil rights history and inspire community learning in Davenport. KWQC
- ➤ Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center held its 43rd annual memorial service and awards celebration Monday in Rock Island. The event featured presentations, performances, award scholarships, and a photography exhibit by Thurgood Marshall Learning Center students to honor King's legacy in the Quad Cities. KWQC
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ IDES reported the Quad Cities Illinois Section's unemployment rate fell to 5% in November from 5.1% last year, even as most sectors lost jobs with seven counties recording declines. Henry, Mercer and Rock Island counties showed slight improvements. Quad Cities Business Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Public Works crews are battling potholes from winter's freeze-thaw cycles — Davenport crews have handled nearly 3,000 calls since Jan. 1 while nearby Moline crews work overnight with cold mix asphalt.
