BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ben Keith joined Iowa American Water Company as director of business development and government affairs on Tuesday, Jan. 20 after leaving MidAmerican Energy Company, where he served as vice president of electric transmission. He will now lead legislative priorities, stakeholder engagement, and business development at the Davenport-based utility.  Quad Cities Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Children's Village West and Jefferson Elementary School in Davenport will receive new playgrounds in the coming years. The planned upgrades aim to boost outdoor play for students.  The Dispatch Argus
  • Alleman High School students volunteered Wednesday during National Catholic Schools Week by serving at projects across the Quad Cities, including cleaning up Youth-Hope in Moline (a nonprofit). School leaders said the day gave students a fun chance to learn new skills outside their usual classroom routine.  KWQC
  • Pleasant Valley's school board interviewed its final three superintendent candidates Thursday after one finalist left for a job at Pella. The district will announce its new leader either today or next week.  KWQC
  • Junior Achievement of the Heartland will seek volunteers this spring to help local classrooms build skills in financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship. No teaching experience is needed as volunteers receive training and materials (celebrating its 70th anniversary) to support hands-on learning across a 24-county area.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Spurred by a former superintendent’s case, Iowa lawmakers have proposed a bill that will require school districts to verify employee identity and eligibility to boost safety. The measure aims to enhance trust across local schools.  The Quad City Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • UnityPoint Health’s diabetes education clinic in Moline at SouthPark Pointe offers guidance on managing diabetes after a 2024 community health study found over 15% of local adults have the condition. The clinic requires referrals for new patients.  KWQC

  • The Gazette released its final draft of Iowa high school girls basketball mock brackets, listing regional pairings with adjustments from IGHSAU rankings (and incorporating BC Moore ratings and geography).
