CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Carl Gamble founded the Popular Astronomy Club in 1936 after his rural childhood gave him a clear view of the night sky. His legacy lives in the Quad-Cities where the club remains a celebrated part of local culture. The Dispatch Argus
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Iowa House lawmakers in Davenport advanced a bill to eliminate vaccine requirements for elementary and secondary students, a move that may lower vaccination rates and complicate outbreak tracking, and the legislation now goes to the full House Education Committee. KWQC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Quad Cities International Airport chose local contractor Estes Construction (Moline) to lead the second phase of its terminal improvement project. Construction on the ticket counter and entrances will begin in early spring. KWQC
- ➤ A water main broke on Tremont Avenue Sunday night + officials restored service by 6 a.m. Monday for two customers. KWQC
- ➤ Sarah Potter of Tri-City Group has been appointed to the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council to advise Gov. Reynolds on expanding STEM education and workforce readiness. She will bring construction industry insights to shape skilled trades programs statewide. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ Channel Cat officials are renovating the dock area in the Village of East Davenport with work underway in the marine area and land improvements starting Feb. 26 — the project includes a new dock, updated passenger queue area, sidewalks, and fencing and is set to finish in late spring/early summer. - ➤ St. Ambrose University in Davenport applied for full membership in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and will compete this fall if approved + the move aims to boost its athletic programs. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ On Monday, Feb. 9, the Quad City Storm held its 7th annual Paint the Ice event at Vibrant Arena, where fans painted names to honor those who have battled cancer — the names will remain until the Feb. 13 game. The free event provided all supplies. KWQC
