COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A total lunar eclipse will light up the sky Tuesday morning, March 3, with the Moon turning red (best view at 5:33 a.m.) while cloud cover tracked by First Alert Weather may block the view.  KWQC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews closed a section of Bridge Avenue near Locust Street as they repaired a damaged power pole from a vehicle crash Friday afternoon (affecting five customers).  KWQC
  • The right lane on I-80 eastbound was blocked due to a vehicle fire that erupted between Northwest Boulevard and US 61 Exits on Feb. 27; firefighters worked to put out the blaze (IDOT reported) (updates pending).  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Arconic broke ground on a $175 million expansion project in Riverdale, which will add 40 jobs and boost local employment. Riverdale Mayor Anthony Heddlesten said the project represents investment in equipment + people.  The Quad City Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 12th Gathering of the Green, celebrating John Deere tractors and collectors, will be held March 18-21 at RiverCenter in downtown Davenport (full registration is required for tour access). Attendees will enjoy over 60 seminars, behind-the-scenes tours, and rare equipment displays.  Quad Cities Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski will keynote the upcoming Women Lead Change Leadership Conference on Thursday, Nov. 12 in the Quad Cities. Lipinski, known for her historic Winter Olympics win, is set to inspire emerging community leaders at the event.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen announced on Friday that Project NOW Head Start received $1.8 million in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services plus the funding is set to boost educational services for local families.  The Quad City Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews across the Quad Cities have responded to brush and field fires while imposing temporary burn bans due to dry weather and gusty winds. Residents in permitted areas are advised to check with local fire officials (using safety tips to prevent small fires from growing).  KWQC

  • Project NOW Head Start program will receive $1.8 million in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen announced the support on Friday.  The Dispatch Argus
