  • Davenport community remembers Vern Carpenter, known as the Mayor of Gaines Street, who died Monday at age 70 after more than 30 years at 1419 North Gaines Street — neighbors said his daily waves and friendly smile eased morning commutes and led many to leave flowers in his honor.  KWQC

  • Comcast announced plans to expand its high-speed network to the Quad Cities, including Davenport, Bettendorf, and nearby areas, with construction underway in Davenport and Moline and services expected in coming months (its first Iowa infrastructure investment).  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Two legislative bills to let community colleges pilot bachelor programs and expand Iowa Tuition Grant eligibility stalled on Wednesday when subcommittees did not advance them, leaving their future uncertain (Sen.
