COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marcia Ellingsworth shopped downtown during the Taste of LeClaire celebration on March 22 — about 20 businesses offered snack and drink samples and discounted goods to attract visitors. The event took place on a sunny, cool Saturday and aimed to boost local shopping in LeClaire.  Quad Cities Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Quad Cities Chamber is hosting Hob Nosh—its most anticipated after-hours event presented by Mediacom—on Wednesday, April 2 from 5–8 p.m. at the Bend XPO Center in East Moline. Chamber members will showcase local products and services with 34 member tables and 27 food and beverage tables along with attractions like a chuck wagon and a 360 Photo Booth.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Bettendorf police are treating the deaths of two people as a murder-suicide—The Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office will conduct autopsies to decide the official manner and causes of death.  The Dispatch Argus
  • A Davenport man was arrested for theft after he allegedly broke into a sleeping person’s home on Vine Street last fall and stole property worth over $10,000—he is now held on a $20,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for April 1.  OurQuadCities
  • Sudlow Middle School officials learned of a social media post making possible threats of violence Sunday night and immediately notified Davenport police (who began investigating the threat). Additional security resources and school resource officers were at the school this morning.  KWQC
  • Dontae Lamonte Burrage, 36, was sentenced on March 18 to 15 years in federal prison and will serve a five-year term of supervised release for possessing a firearm as a felon and for being an armed career criminal, as court documents showed he had multiple outstanding warrants and six state felony drug convictions—after he ran from a bail bond company's attempt to arrest him in 2022 when he threw a loaded pistol.  KWQC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tri-City Building & Construction Trades Council opposed Senate File 603 on March 20 because the bill’s changes will hurt apprenticeship programs that help workers earn a middle-class living. The council urged Gov. Kim Reynolds to reject the bill — saying its limits on apprenticeship training and recent cuts to unemployment benefits will weaken the state's skilled workforce.  Quad Cities Business Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Ambrose University—a finalist in Iowa’s Healthiest State Annual Awards—is named one of Iowa’s healthiest workplaces by the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative as part of its focus on employee and student wellness. Winners will be announced on April 16 in Ankeny.  KWQC
