COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Quad Cities International Airport is hosting a donation drive for TSA workers amid a partial government shutdown. Donations including non-perishable food, toiletries, and gift cards will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon & from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the airport.  KWQC
  • Humane Society of Scott County introduces Mama’s Boy, a goofy, friendly stray pup great with other dogs, and invites locals to its Doggie Easter Egg Hunt from noon to 2 p.m. on April 11 at the Mississippi Valley Fairground, where free microchipping is offered and dogs must be leashed.  KWQC

  • Arconic held a ceremony Tuesday to celebrate 27 employees who completed their apprenticeship programs at Davenport Works and advanced to journeyman roles in skilled trades - family and friends gathered to honor their achievement.  KWQC
  • High Porch Coffee, LLC owners Jeremy Music & Kris Pickens were honored as Multi-Unit Franchisee of the Year at the Scooter’s Coffee Conference in Omaha. Their 25 stores, most in Eastern Iowa, posted double-digit sales increases and now coach other franchisees.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, the QCCA Expo Center will host the Spring Craft Show with 125 vendors offering handmade items, seasonal decor, gifts, and specialty products (Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Admission is $5 for adults with free entry for children 12 and under.  KWQC
  • Brad Mundt built an indoor farm at RiverCenter that displays a barn & pasture along with a corn field using antique farm equipment. Gathering of the Green attendees viewed the creative project that brings nostalgic farm elements indoors.  The Dispatch Argus

  • Davenport Community Schools is considering demolishing two 100-year-old red brick storage buildings at Brady and East 36th Streets, since repairs cost roughly $1 million while demolition is about $150,000, and safer parking is planned; demolition could start this summer (repairs are too expensive).  KWQC
  • The Davenport School Board is considering adding preschool classes at the JB Young Center (requiring $5.8 million in renovations) to offer early learning opportunities.  The Quad City Times
  • Nonprofit fundraising professionals from the Quad Cities are invited to attend the Success in Fundraising: Rooted & Resilient conference on Tuesday, Apr. 16 at Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., where Mallory Erickson of Practivated will lead tailored breakout sessions for newcomers, mid-career, and seasoned fundraisers.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • The IRS has released its Dirty Dozen list of tax scams to warn Davenport residents to avoid phishing emails, AI-generated calls and fake charities. Taxpayers should verify all IRS contacts — which are sent by mail — before taking action to protect their refunds.  KWQC

  • Cancer Support Community at Gilda’s Club will host its Live from QC… It’s Saturday Nite gala on March 28 at the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf.
