  • Voters narrowed the Makers Madness contest to 16 contenders, including a John Deere Combine (from East Moline), in Illinois’ annual competition for coolest product. Voting will continue daily until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 29, and the winner will be announced at a ceremony on April 15 in Springfield.  Quad Cities Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Great Oaks High School (a charter school focused on credit recovery and trades training) will soon open in Davenport; it is one of three schools that the state approved last year.  The Dispatch Argus
  • University of Iowa Professor Mary Charlton will present Iowa cancer research findings on April 2 at Scott Community College Urban Campus in downtown Davenport.  The Quad City Times
  • A new report on teacher salaries in the Quad-Cities shows that pay varies by district and state, offering insight for local educators and community members.  The Dispatch Argus
  • Black Hawk College will host a career fair on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the gymnasium (Building 3) where over 50 public and private employers will interview candidates; attendees should dress professionally and bring a resume for the free event.  KWQC

  • Families in Iowa are urging lawmakers to allocate + $3 million for pediatric cancer research as the bill awaits review in a House subcommittee. Lawmakers are expected to decide on the measure within the next three weeks.  KWQC
