COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Women Fighting Hunger event raised $166,000 for River Bend Food Bank and brought its total since 2019 to $566,000, according to organizers in Davenport.  The Quad City Times
  • YWCA Quad Cities opened Alan’s House yesterday to welcome its first residents, the only youth group home in the area for children (10 to 17) referred by state agencies with a capacity for 14 youth and offering wraparound services such as counseling and vocational support provided by licensed staff 24/7.  KWQC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 14th Annual QC Restaurant Week brings exclusive deals and specials at over 80 local eateries from Monday, April 6 to Sunday, April 12, featuring a pork dish competition and Restaurant Stars recognition (both key parts of the event).  Quad Cities Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lincoln-Irving Elementary students and 55 staff will attend classes at WIU-Quad Cities campus through the 2026-27 school year as their building undergoes construction on a new combined facility. The district said the move starting Tuesday gives families time to adjust.  KWQC
  • Black Hawk College and WIU have signed an agreement to create new pathways in high-demand fields such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering technology, and early childhood education (boosting local career opportunities). The partners will work to expand training programs for future professionals.  The Dispatch Argus

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois Department of Transportation said work (patch and resurface road and ramps) on I-74 and 280 will resume Monday, Apr. 6 in Rock Island County, closing one lane for westbound traffic with completion expected in July.  KWQC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Spring allergy season is worsening as tree and grass pollen rise, and Davenport allergist Dr. Mark Blaser advises residents to close windows, use ventilation filters (which trap pollen) and change clothes after being outdoors. Over-the-counter antihistamines may help, and seeing an allergist is recommended if symptoms persist.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Quad Cities River Bandits will open their season on the road in South Bend this Friday and host Opening Day at Modern Woodmen Park on April 7 at 6:30 p.m. against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers—manager Jesus Azuaje leads a mix of returners and new players.  KWQC
  • The Quad City Storm will play their final two regular season games on Friday and Saturday at Vibrant Arena at The MARK against the Huntsville Havoc. Fans will join #HockeyTownQC Night on Friday with alumni autographs and poster giveaways on Saturday as the team could clinch a playoff berth.  KWQC
