- ➤ The Quad Cities Bicycle Club will hold its Intro to Group Riding event at Lindsay Park Yacht Club in Davenport on April 13 at 1 p.m. as cyclists of all ages are invited to join a slow-paced ride along the riverfront trail and meet safety requirements—another similar ride is scheduled for April 20 with the same guidelines. - ➤ Lead(h)er will host its Fifth Annual Golf Outing on Friday, May 16 at Palmer Hills Golf Course in Bettendorf—where golfers will play 18 holes with breakfast, lunch, contests and networking at 8:30 a.m. Registration closes on April 25 and proceeds will support a mentorship program to empower women. - ➤ The Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island is taking orders for its annual plant sale fundraiser to help raise $25,000. Orders will be due by April 14 plus pick up will occur on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. OurQuadCities
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An Ohio man was taken into custody after he shot at someone on West 2nd Street in Davenport on March 16, police said. Christopher James faces an attempted murder charge and is held on a $35,000 cash-only bond with a preliminary hearing set for April 15 (Scott County Court documents). OurQuadCities

- ➤ The 44th Annual Quad Cities Holocaust Remembrance—Yom HaShoah—will be held at 7 p.m. on April 27 at Wallenberg Hall in Augustana College’s Denkmann Building, where Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal will address the event remotely. OurQuadCities
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Davenport West High School student started a petition against the new eight-period schedule that will shift entry-level CTE classes to 45-minute periods, saying 45-minute classes do not allow enough time for hands-on learning and safe skill building. School officials said the new schedule provides the same total instructional time and will begin next school year. The Quad City Times
- ➤ A Davenport West High School student started a petition to keep entry-level CTE classes at 85 minutes after the board voted in September to adopt a new eight-period schedule with most courses switching to 45-minute blocks. Cory Carter said the longer class period gives students more time for hands-on learning and better safety outcomes — and he hopes school leaders will reverse the change for next school year. - ➤ More than 1,300 8th-12th grade students from Iowa and Illinois will attend the Build My Future/Care for My Future event at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island on Tuesday, April 8 — an interactive expo that offers hands-on experiences in construction and the medical field. OurQuadCities
- ➤ Black Hawk College is launching a new program to train students as occupational therapy assistants and requires applicants to complete 10 hours of observation (applications close May 12) before enrolling in the fall course. The two-year program offers hands-on clinical training and a new lab with a mock apartment (students will earn an Associate in Applied Science degree and be eligible for national certification).
