  • Some Ukrainian families in DeWitt, sponsored by IA NICE, may lose their legal status before July due to changes in immigration rules—Angela Boelens said many are in real danger. Boelens visited Ukraine to meet relatives of the families and document the destruction from the conflict—she plans to auction donated items to raise funds for Ukraine.  The Quad City Times

  • Mississippi River Distilling Company joined the Parallel Brewery Collective so Iowa craft brands can reach more customers, and Modern Woodmen of America named three new officers on April 1 including one from Davenport. RIA Federal Credit Union marked 90 years with acts of kindness, Mel Foster Insurance earned a Commercial Lines Circle of Excellence award, and WRK Engineers partnered with IMEG to boost seismic engineering work.  The Dispatch Argus
  • On April 6, Mississippi River Distilling Company joined a craft group with SingleSpeed Brewing, Backpocket Brewing, and Five Cities Brewing to help bring Iowa craft to more stores. Modern Woodmen named new officers on April 1, RIA Federal Credit Union marked its 90th birthday with 90 acts of kindness, Mel Foster Insurance won a business award, and WRK Engineers started a seismic tie-up with IMEG—growing regional services.  The Quad City Times

CRIME NEWS

  • A 56-year-old Milan man admitted smoking meth and led troopers on a 100 mph chase through Davenport in a stolen car—he crashed the vehicle after failing to negotiate an intersection—he was arrested and now faces multiple felony charges with a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 15.  OurQuadCities

  • Local teen author Iris M. Stockwell will read from her debut book (The Poems of a Tea Enthusiast) at the East Moline Public Library on Wednesday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m. A conversation will follow, and copies of her debut book and latest novel, The Canvas of Our Regrets, will be available for purchase.  OurQuadCities
  • LeClaire Community Library has received funding from Humanities Iowa to host a free presentation titled "Grant Wood: Artistic Rags to Riches — an American Success Story" by Randy Lengeling at 6:30 p.m. on April 9. The event is supported by the State Historical Society, Inc. for the Humanities and will use archival photos and video clips to explore Wood's life and artistic rise.  OurQuadCities

  • Angela Boelens, president of IA NICE, said Ukrainian families in DeWitt may lose their legal status before July due to unexpected changes in immigration policy while Russia’s invasion continues. She visited Ukraine to document the damage and meet relatives, and she plans to auction donated artwork to raise money for Ukraine—details of the next steps remain uncertain.  The Dispatch Argus
