- ➤ SCORE Central Region is offering 12 free small business webinars in April to help local entrepreneurs gain skills in areas like Google Workspace, video marketing, commercial leasing, and business planning; sessions will run from April 10 at noon to April 30 at 9:30 a.m. (Each webinar targets a key topic to support business growth.) - ➤ Brakes Plus opened its new full-service shop in Davenport on April 7 and will open another location in a few months—general manager Robert Irk said the company is committed to serving the local community. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ A Wichita-based chicken chain—Chick N Max—plans to expand into Davenport as it aims to open up to 50 locations along I-35. The company will open 5 to 7 Iowa restaurants including sites in Davenport, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, and Iowa City. KWQC
- ➤ Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream, a Davenport brand, climbed to No. 21 on Pizza Marketplace’s Top 100 Movers & Shakers list and CEO Tom Sacco was named one of the Top 25 Industry Executives — the company secured 22 new franchises in 2024 and plans to add 25 more franchises and eight new locations at home and abroad. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ IDOT will hold a public meeting on April 17 from 2-6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Rock Island, 226 17th St., to gather input on the 85-year-old Centennial Bridge and plans for a possible replacement. The meeting will feature discussion of issues — such as safety, community needs and design — as a study may lead to new construction starting as early as 2029 with a budget that could exceed $300 million. - ➤ A member of the public released a copy of the DCI report summary on the May 2023 building collapse in downtown Davenport that detailed how investigators, led by Special Agent Ryan Kedley, examined the scene and identified three men—Branden Colvin Sr., Ryan Hitchcock and Daniel Prien—who died in the incident. The summary referenced a city-hired forensic engineering report that found structural weaknesses but did not offer new details on what caused the collapse. The Quad City Times
