CRIME NEWS

  • Alexis Roelandt, a 19-year-old from Davenport, was found dead in a Rock Island motel room and her death from traumatic head injuries was ruled a homicide by the county coroner — police are investigating the case after arriving at the American Motor Inn on Saturday at 11:11 a.m.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Junior Achievement of the Heartland announced that its President and CEO Dougal Nelson will retire on Tuesday, Sept. 30 and that a national search is underway for his replacement. Nelson, who began volunteering with JA in 2001 and became CEO in 2018, led key initiatives including the opening of the JA Inspiration Center last October — a milestone that highlights his transformative impact on the organization.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • More than 1,300 area students explored different trades at the Build My Future career event held Tuesday, April 8 at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island, where Troy Tully operated a simulated welder, Kaylee Rockwell used saws to learn about construction, + Tate Martin climbed a rope to explore an arborist career.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • A real estate report for April 6 showed different home sales in Rock Island and Henry counties — 166 homes sold in Davenport at an average price of $229,036 and 124 sold in Bettendorf at an average price of $412,055 — with data from the RMLS Alliance.  The Quad City Times

  • Davenport Speedway is set for the Koehler Electric Season Opener this Friday, April 11, at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds + six stock car classes will compete under promoter Jeff Struck + starting his second season at one of the area's oldest tracks.  OurQuadCities
