- ➤ The Empowering Abilities 2025 HANDS Auxiliary Golf Outing will take place on Monday, June 2 at Davenport Country Club to raise money for programs that help people with disabilities. Registration is open for golfers and teams with a deadline of May 23 (local businesses can sponsor and volunteers are welcome). Quad Cities Business Journal
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Tehrrence Burrage, a 44 year old man from Davenport, was arrested on April 10 for threatening a woman with a Moltov cocktail on October 28, 2024—he faces charges of criminal mischief, threat with an explosive device, extortion and first degree harassment—he is held on a $5,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for April 18. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Bettendorf school board passed a $42 million bond resolution for renovations at the local middle school. Most of the funds will cover a new addition — and structural demolitions at the school. The Dispatch Argus
- ➤ High school students competed on Friday at Bettendorf High School in the annual trebuchet challenge organized by the Quad Cities Engineering and Science Council—students launched eggs at different targets and measured distance while 19 teams vied for the top score. The event also featured a cardboard boat regatta and a battle of the bridges, where the overall winner will earn a $1,000 scholarship. OurQuadCities
- ➤ A group of high school and college students showcased their culinary skills Friday at the Scott Community College Culinary Center in Davenport—preparing globally inspired dishes and building teamwork. Instructor Reese McRae said the event taught basic food preparation, cooking techniques and safety practices to enhance students' skills for their future careers. KWQC

- ➤ The Davenport City Council upheld a historic preservation commission's decision to deny a homeowner's request to install sliding glass doors at 418 W. Seventh St. in the Hamburg Historic District — the case is heading to court with potential daily fines of up to $1,000 if the violation continues. The council also approved spending nearly $1 million in ARPA interest funds by adding $70,000 for the Center for Active Seniors and issuing $28,385,000 in bonds at a 4.62% rate to fund city improvements.
