COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local community leaders and musicians gathered during the Battle of the Businesses to raise money for Common Chord’s music education programs in Davenport. Their lively performances, *featuring local TV personalities*, helped boost funds that will support inclusive music classes for young residents.  KWQC
  • The Most Reverend William E. Franklin passed away peacefully under Carmelite Sisters' care, and liturgies honoring his life will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral (Davenport); the Rite is set for Thursday, Apr. 16 at 4 p.m. and the Funeral Liturgy for Friday, Apr. 17 at 10:30 a.m.  KWQC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices have surged in the Quad Cities due to the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran, and local drivers are feeling the pinch as they compare costs. Some residents have paid up to $4.19 per gallon + now adjust daily trips to save money.  KWQC

  • Eight-year-old Anakin Laffredi from Moline is competing in America's Favorite Student contest to win $20,000 for the Planetary Society with winners announced in June as he overcomes obstacles (he has ADHD and SPD) to chase his dream of becoming a scientist.  KWQC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Davenport officials announced that mobile speed cabinets patrol until April 20. Two units move weekly, and a daily speed van visits spots (2800 Division on Monday, 5500 Pine on Tuesday, 1500 East Locust on Wednesday, 5700 Northwest Boulevard on Thursday, and 5700 Division on Friday).  KWQC
  • Davenport Public Works reminds residents to take advantage of no sticker yard waste weeks until Friday, Apr. 17 by placing waste in kraft ply bags, carts, or the Compost Facility for free collection, as stickers will be required after that date.  KWQC
