- ➤ Safer Sacks, Safer QC’s largest fundraiser, must have orders by April 18 so that people can pick up sack lunches at its 20th anniversary celebration on April 24 at JB Young Opportunity Center (1702 N. Main St.) in Davenport. The fundraiser will try to sell 2,250 lunches that include a croissant-wich, chips, cookie, fruit and condiments to help people affected by the criminal legal system (delivery orders of 20 or more will get a $20 discount and a chance to win a HyVee gift card). BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A chicken restaurant chain from Wichita plans to expand to Davenport by opening five to seven new sites in Iowa. The company will add 50 restaurants in the Midwest and South over the next two years—using new formats with drive thru service and curbside pickup. Quad Cities Business Journal
- ➤ A new food truck, energy and coffee shop opened recently in the Quad-Cities—joining other local business openings that offer more choices for local customers. The Quad City Times
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Davenport police said that Andrew Aldrich, 36, was arrested on April 14 for third-degree burglary after he used a key to enter M Lounge at 217 Brady Street and was later found carrying a container of electronic equipment and burglary tools; he is held in Scott County Jail on a secured $5,000 bond. - ➤ A Davenport man (61) was arrested early Sunday after police said he kicked down a door and threatened to kill people inside on April 13 at 2:31 a.m. on the 500 block of S. Dittmer Street when officers forced him to the ground, and he has been charged with felony assault, attempted burglary, and interference with official acts while being released on a $5,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for April 22. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Davenport Community School District is planning to demolish five vacant district-owned houses — four on East 36th Street and one on 53rd Street — to clear land for new projects. If approved, the board will award the contract to MCON Constructors for $119,850 and work will be done by July 30. KWQC
- ➤ Iowa high school students may soon need to pass a citizenship test to graduate if a Senate-approved bill becomes law—students must earn at least 60% on the test and can retake it as needed. The change would take effect in the 2026—2027 school year and now awaits further approval in the Iowa House. KWQC

- ➤ USPS announced that local mail processing operations at the Milan facility remained unchanged with current staffing levels and invested up to $6.7 million to modernize the center—improving technology, lighting, and employee amenities.
