COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Veteran editor and investigative journalist (formerly top news editor at The Times of Northwest Indiana at Lee Enterprises) joins Quad-City Times to lead its newsroom and boost local coverage. Her appointment brings years of experience to our community.  The Quad City Times
  • Hannah Magrum (a chartered special needs consultant and Thrivent Financial advisor) will lead a workshop for Quad-Cities families this week to offer guidance on special needs planning.  The Quad City Times
  • Abbey Isenberger with Rock Island County Animal Care+Control Shelter introduced adoptable kitten Rodney, a 2-month-old tabby with two brothers, and the shelter welcomes community volunteers and donations.  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • KWQC remains off DISH Network after more than a month of disputes, with Gray Media saying the satellite provider rejected proposals following extended deadlines during severe weather and major events. Local viewers can still watch the station on other subscription services.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rock Island School Board approved the reappointments of two Rock Island-Milan employees whose contested hires will continue through the 2026-27 school year. The decision was made Tuesday night amid community interest in stable school leadership.  The Dispatch Argus

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Davenport leaders were briefed Tuesday by the Community Planning Department on a solar ordinance that would allow panels in agricultural, industrial, and residential areas. The council will vote in June before the moratorium ends on June 25.  KWQC
  • Construction season is ramping up in Davenport as roadwork at 53rd Street and Utica Ridge Road adds new turn lanes to ease congestion, and resurfacing on 4th Street plus upcoming work on Fairmont Street is set to reduce delays (East Moline projects are expected to finish by the end of May).  KWQC

HEALTH NEWS

  • UnityPoint Health-Trinity will offer Cooking with Heart, a four-week interactive cooking class series on healthy recipes + safe swaps in May to help locals lower heart disease risk with hands-on instruction and a take-home binder.  KWQC
  • State, city, and county inspectors found multiple food-safety violations—including unsafe temperatures and poor hygiene—at Iowa restaurants during inspections from Feb. 28 to April 3, with two Davenport locations (Gog Dynasty Buffet and Azteca #4) noted for serious concerns.  KWQC
