COMMUNITY NEWS

  • River Action will host the first Ride the Island event on Father’s Day—June 15th—in the Quad Cities, featuring a 10-mile bicycle ride around historic sites on Arsenal Island. Event manager Chris True announced the new tradition during a news conference on April 15th.  Quad Cities Business Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Locust Street at Bridge Avenue was closed after a motorcycle crash on Tuesday night that led Davenport police to block all lanes.  KWQC
  • On Tuesday afternoon, a truck crashed into an apartment building at the Hendrix apartment complex on the corner of North Division Street and Cheyenne Avenue in Davenport—officials have not confirmed if anyone was injured.  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Iowa American Water announced on April 11 that it is teaming with MercyOne Genesis and the Scott County Emergency Management Agency to launch a $5.6M well project in Davenport that will improve water service for Quad Cities customers.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Officers in Davenport responded to a bomb threat at the Scott County Courthouse Tuesday night and detained a man who left a suspicious package that the bomb squad later confirmed was safe—he has been arrested.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting today, Iowa families can apply for the Education Savings Account program—open to all K-12 students at Iowa-accredited nonpublic schools—that offers nearly $8,000 per approved student to help cover tuition and fees as part of the Students First Act. Families can log into the Odyssey portal and receive approval in five to ten minutes, and Rivermont Collegiate will hold an informational session on April 22 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at 1821 Sunset Drive.  KWQC
  • Five international college students in Quad-Cities have had their statuses revoked amid tightening immigration rules. In response, teachers have given mementos and school transcripts to students who left abruptly—steps aimed at easing transitions as families rush to return home for safety.  The Dispatch Argus

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since November, a change in Iowa law has stopped public defenders in Davenport from handling misdemeanor cases. Attorney Ryan Beckenbaugh said a shortage of lawyers—due to retirements and fewer law students—has created a crisis that leaves many defendants waiting for counsel.  OurQuadCities
