- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley, with presenting sponsors Iowa American Water, Mel Foster Co. and Solutions Management Group, has announced its 36th annual plant sale and invites residents to pre-order online through Monday, April 21 — the retail event will take place on Friday, May 9 at Time Bank at NorthPark Tower from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents with orders of $75 or more will receive free delivery or curbside pickup on May 7 and 8 — supporting the nonprofit’s youth mentoring program. - ➤ A Davenport Central student—Baylee Parker—earned a full-ride scholarship to a summer jazz program while her school's Jazz 1 band placed 4th in Class 4A at the Iowa Jazz Championships held earlier this month in Ames. Co-Director David Nicholson—thrilled by the historic finish—said the win shows the program is strong. KWQC

- ➤ Students at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and Western Illinois University had their visas revoked amid stricter immigration rules. Teachers have given supportive items (such as signed T-shirts and soccer balls) to help students cope with their sudden departures and stay connected to school. The Quad City Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Illinois and Iowa transportation officials held a public meeting on April 17 to gather input on travel experiences with the Centennial Bridge—an 85-year-old connector between downtown Davenport and Rock Island—to help decide if it should be repaired or replaced. - ➤ On April 17, hundreds of Quad Citians attended a public meeting at the Holiday Inn Rock Island—where local officials and community members discussed plans to improve the 85-year-old Centennial Bridge linking downtown Davenport and Rock Island.
