CULTURE NEWS

  • The Quad Cities' Holocaust Remembrance event held at St. Ambrose University on Sunday featured child survivor Yvonne Aronson & Violins of Hope presentations, prayers, and awards for student essay and visual arts contests that honored history to prevent future hate.  KWQC
  • Niabi Zoo kicked off its season yesterday at 10 a.m. with renovated big cat and eagle exhibits and new attractions—a splash pad near the carousel and a dinosaur dig for kids. The zoo is open until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday except Mondays.  KWQC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Quad-Cities fell nearly 13 cents over the last week but remain 27 cents above last month, while nationwide trends show declines in 48 states for gasoline and 46 for diesel.  The Quad City Times

  • Hundreds of Quad City students explored trade and medical careers at the second annual Build My Future trades fair held Tuesday at the QCCA Expo Center - organized by the Quad Cities Builders and Remodelers Association to offer hands-on career experience.  KWQC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Culver’s restaurants in the Midwest are teaming with Living Lands & Waters this Earth Day, with 47 outlets donating 10% of net sales all day & 43 additional locations joining from 4-8 p.m. The fundraiser supports river cleanup and environmental projects near the Quad Cities.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Heavy storms last week pushed the Rock River above flood stage, causing water to spill near Colona with a crest expected today over 16 feet. The Mississippi River near LeClaire Park in downtown Davenport is forecast to crest Friday at 16 feet, raising flood concerns.  KWQC

  • Sen. Tammy Duckworth & colleagues are pushing Army leadership for urgent answers about potential cuts to 150 civilian jobs at Rock Island Arsenal amid concerns over an AI review. They will use upcoming defense budget discussions as leverage to get answers.  KWQC

  • Historic office towers in Davenport and Bettendorf were sold to Avalair Group Tuesday, April 21. The transaction involved two key buildings at 100 E. Kimberly Road (9 stories, 67,839 sqft) and 2550 Middle Road (6 stories, 45,588 sqft) now leasing with management by NAI Ruhl Commercial Company.  Quad Cities Business Journal
