COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers and local leaders packed hundreds of sack lunches Wednesday at JB Young Opportunity Center for Safer Foundation’s 21st fundraiser — selling about 2,000 lunches at $10 each with a $25 Hy-Vee savings card. The drive-through event is today from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the center.  KWQC
  • Two Davenport firefighters were recognized for off-duty life-saving efforts. One saved someone during a workout at the YMCA while the other rescued a person on a vacation in Florida.  The Dispatch Argus

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Quad Cities Chamber hosted Hob Nosh last Wednesday at the Bend Expo Center, where more than 80 local businesses showcased food, music, games, and giveaways. The event brought the community together for networking (offering a glimpse into local business connections).  KWQC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bruce’s New & Used Furniture building on West Fourth Street is being turned into Sound Factory, a multi-use venue with a vinyl record shop, café and live music space opening this summer, with later phases adding a DJ nightclub (no alcohol served) to boost community growth.  KWQC
  • The Last Picture House will launch its rooftop for a third season on Apr. 30 + run until mid-fall. Ticketed movie screenings will start Thursday through Saturday at sundown with Back to the Future and the rooftop bar will serve guests from 3 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Monday.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from the Quad-Cities got hands-on career skill experience at the *Build My Future* event where they simulated tree climbing on a rope course and practiced HVAC rewiring.  The Dispatch Argus

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Vera French Foundation will host a ribbon cutting on Friday, Apr. 24 to celebrate the new Carol’s Village Gardens housing development — a project aimed at expanding local housing options.  The Quad City Times
  • The Cambria Hotel (near TBK Bank Sports Complex) will soon begin a $3 million conversion to a Holiday Inn Express that will add an indoor pool, fitness center, guest laundry plus updated lobby and patio areas.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Quad Cities-area high school baseball teams will play in the 'If You Build It' series at the new ballpark at the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville — a venue celebrating local talent — with six games scheduled from June 17 to 26 and tickets on sale April 27.  KWQC
