  • Illowa Council Scouting America in Davenport will host its fifth annual Community Impact Gala at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at The Camden Centre in Milan—honoring volunteers, donors, and 68 Eagle Scouts whose community projects totaled 8,298 service hours while presenting awards to outstanding contributors and district Eagle finalists.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • Trisha Engle left a corporate HR job to run her local historic florist in Moline—she uses raised beds to grow her own plants—and the supportive Quad-Cities community helps her business thrive.  The Dispatch Argus

CRIME NEWS

  • Scott County prosecutors refiled murder and related charges against two men for the shooting death of 34-year-old Dimitri Larese Martin on March 3, 2023 — the incident took place in Davenport.  The Quad City Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Officials at Last Picture House said the rooftop is open now for the season with free daily events and ticketed film screenings on Thursdays through Saturdays starting at sundown. The venue will operate seven days a week, weather permitting, until mid-fall with hours (Mon–Thu: 3 p.m. to midnight; Fri–Sat: 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Sun: 11 a.m. to midnight).  KWQC
  • Local artists fixed up and repainted the 10 statues in Lindsay Park in Davenport so they can honor Georges Seurat’s work for a longer time. The art piece will stay on display until November before moving indoors (artists say the 25-year-old sculptures needed repair).  OurQuadCities

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Quad Cities International Airport had its best travel month since before COVID—61,994 passengers passed through in March, an 11% rise from last year. Allegiant Air added flights to Sarasota, Florida and American Airlines began service to Charlotte, North Carolina while overall travel is up 9% so far this year.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rock Island-Milan school board approved a 6.23% salary increase for Superintendent Sharon Williams—raising her base salary to $233,712—and added a $13,000 benefit boost next school year, while some community members raised concerns about transparency and others supported the move during Tuesday's meeting.  The Quad City Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks has committed to holding a public town hall today after speaking at a private Americans For Prosperity event, and protesters plan an eight-hour demonstration from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside her office (201 W. 2nd St.) where they urge her to meet all her constituents.  The Dispatch Argus
