- ➤ Four Quad-Cities advocacy groups launched Civic Conversations, a new forum series discussing current news topics. The first forum, 'The State of Journalism Today', will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Friday, May 9 at Scott Community College Urban Campus in Davenport — the free event will feature panelists addressing disinformation and evolving media platforms. - ➤ The Freight House Farmers Market will reopen on May 3 and May 4 with live music and food trucks—offering locally sourced produce, crafts and culinary items. The market will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 3 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. KWQC
- ➤ On April 25, residents attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the updated Vera French Community Mental Health center at 1441 W. Central Park as the new $2 million addition opened to serve the local community. - ➤ Court records show that on March 3, 2023, police investigated the murder of 34-year-old Dimitri Martin at Third and Ripley and linked suspects Trevelyan Pugh and Sylvester Staples to the case via video footage and nearly 20 search warrants + Pugh remains in custody while both are set to appear in court on May 1. - ➤ Court records revealed details of the investigation into the fatal March 3 shooting of unhoused Dimitri Martin at Third and Ripley—police used nearly 20 search warrants and video footage to link rental vehicles to suspects Trevelyan Pugh and Sylvester Staples, with Pugh in custody and Staples set to appear in court on May 1. - ➤ At Davenport West High School, over 50 students protested the plan to change the schedule from 90-minute blocks to eight periods with 45-minute classes—saying the shorter times hurt learning in technical programs and that they have started a petition. School officials say longer classes will stay for advanced career and technical education courses—meant to offer more course options and help students get needed support starting next school year.
