  • Rebecca Arnold (a Rock Island native and public health practitioner) is named a 2026 Woman of Influence by the Quad Cities Regional Business Journal for her work in strengthening community health systems. Her career includes roles at Johns Hopkins, the Peace Corps and USAID.  Quad Cities Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • RIA Federal Credit Union (RIA) merged with Redbrand Credit Union on Friday, May 1, after receiving regulatory approvals following a vote in Bartonville. The merger will expand branch access with new locations in Bartonville and Pekin set for early 2027, while RIA remains the surviving legal entity.  Quad Cities Business Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Quad Cities jumped 33.7 cents in one week, now averaging $4.11 (up 56 cents from April) and may impact local driving costs.  The Quad City Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Ambrose University is renaming its Physician Assistant program to Physician Associate to align with modern healthcare roles. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a new law that takes effect July 1, supporting the update at the Center for Health Sciences Education at MercyOne Genesis in Davenport.  Quad Cities Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mobile speed cabinets remain placed until May 11 at Davenport locations (6700 Division St, 5500 Pine St, 1500 East Locust St, and 5700 Northwest Blvd); the speed van will shift spots, starting today at 3300 West Locust St and moving to other spots through Friday.  KWQC
  • The House passed a $390 billion farm bill with a 224–200 vote, offering Iowa farmers new conservation updates & support for pork producers as the bill moves to the Senate. The legislation leaves out E-15, a measure expected to be revisited on May 13.  KWQC
