- ➤ On Saturday, Mark and Ellen Willman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Davenport when their children organized a surprise party at Dairy Freez—recalling the spot where Mark once proposed—and then drove to the Fairmount Cemetery mausoleum to enjoy the view. The Dispatch Argus

- ➤ A jury in Davenport convicted Wade Gittings of manslaughter on Monday—deliberations began Friday—after he was accused of killing his brother. The Quad City Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ International students at Iowa colleges faced a time of fear as 13 of 40 contacted institutions reported changes to their study records and some had their visas revoked—most issues were later fixed but many students remain scared and are missing classes or leaving campus. The changes have left students and school officials worried about both academic progress and future enrollment. The Gazette
- ➤ The Davenport Community School District is gathering feedback from students, parents, and local partners to shape its new Portrait of a Graduate plan — a program designed to ensure students gain skills that will help them in school and later in the workforce. Surveys will go live on the district website in the coming weeks, and the school board will vote on the plan at the end of May. KWQC
- ➤ Dozens of post-secondary students in the Quad Cities received scholarship help from the Quad Cities Community Foundation that awarded $754,894—the largest award total in its 60-year history. Of the 79 scholarships, more than half were renewable to offer ongoing support during the students' academic careers. OurQuadCities
- ➤ A grand opening ceremony for the new Regional Innovation Center in Eldridge is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 9 at 2205 S.1st St. The 84,000-square-foot facility cost $18.7 million — with more than $12 million from North Scott Community School District — and will offer hands-on STEM training to over 9,000 students.
