COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Esther Joy King and Jenny Halupnik announced that YouthHope centers from Moline and Rock Island are adding a youth center in the Davenport West End to support at-risk children—officials note a child born there has a 15% shorter lifespan than one born in Bettendorf. The new center will offer shuttle runs, creative outlets and a food pantry, and community support is still needed. KWQC
- ➤ The Arc of the Quad Cities Area is hosting a food drive in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr that runs from May 7th through May 20th, with donation boxes placed at Hy-Vee locations, libraries, and other community sites. The drive supports food security and offers people with disabilities a chance to help & to gain hands-on experience in serving local pantries. OurQuadCities
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Davenport man was arrested after depositing several stolen cell phones into an ecoATM at NorthPark Mall (12:22 p.m., May 4) for cash; he admitted taking phones during a Verizon robbery and is charged with felony second-degree theft, released on a $5,000 bond (preliminary hearing set for May 23). - ➤ On Tuesday, a Davenport man—Zachariah Ross—received nine years in federal prison with a four-year supervised release and a Los Angeles man—Cristian Inostros-Aquino—received over six years with a four-year supervised release for their alleged conspiracy to ship thousands of fentanyl pills to the Quad Cities between 2022 and 2023 after a search of Ross’s home found loaded firearms. - ➤ Davenport Mayor Mike Matson will present his State of the City address at noon on Thursday, June 5 at Rhythm City Casino Resort in north Davenport.
