- ➤ On May 16, law enforcement officers will host the Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraiser for the Special Olympics at participating Dunkin's locations across Quad Cities from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. Donors will receive a free donut coupon—those who give $10 or more will also get a free medium coffee coupon. - ➤ Teenagers from local high schools awarded $37,500 to 12 nonprofits through the Teens for Tomorrow program run by the Quad Cities Community Foundation. The students raised $27,500 with donors and focused on education and childcare, food needs, immigration support and housing — applications for next year’s program are now accepted. OurQuadCities
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Quad City Symphony Orchestra will perform Video Games in Concert at 7:30 p.m. today in the hallway connecting the Davenport RiverCenter to the Adler Theatre, and family-friendly booths with a pre-concert cosplay competition for ticket holders will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Tickets can be purchased online.) - ➤ Today, the Putnam Museum will host Putnam Palooza as part of the Culture Bright Series. The free event will feature family-friendly activities with scheduled shows (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and an evening music performance (5 to 9 p.m.), though museum admission is charged. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ High Road School of the Quad Cities held its third annual prom on Friday—giving special education students a fun evening of music, dancing, photos and food. School officials said the event helps students feel included and prepares them for life outside school. OurQuadCities
- ➤ The Quad Cities Community Foundation awarded local students a record $754,894 in scholarships — the largest sum ever given in its more than 60-year history — using donor funds to support 79 awards with more than half renewable to help with college, trade school, and other studies.
