- ➤ Gloria Mancilla, now a U.S. citizen, became a nurse and registered cardiac sonographer in Davenport after her family fled gang violence in Mexico when she was 9. She volunteers with Quad Cities Interfaith—sharing her story to help others understand how hard it is to leave home and build a new life. The Dispatch Argus

- ➤ Davenport firefighters extinguished a fire on Saturday morning when a pile of material ignited on the 1800 block of West 2nd Street near the railroad tracks+ a nearby structure owner spoke with crews during cleanup and no one was injured. OurQuadCities
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Friday at the trial of Adriana Blake — accused in the 2024 double murder of Brian Goodwin and Amy M. Smith — witness Victoria Smeaton said that Goodwin said 'I love you. I love you' moments before he was shot just after returning to his Davenport home on a cold winter morning. The Quad City Times
- ➤ Victoria Smeaton testified in court that on a cold January morning Brian Goodwin said 'I love you. I love you' before leaving his Division Street home where he was fatally shot—his death is part of a double murder case now on trial. The Dispatch Argus
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Quad-Cities students in the Class of 2025 will begin their graduation ceremonies next week at various local schools, with many events held at Vibrant Arena at the Mark in Moline—where security measures like metal detectors and small bag policies will be enforced. Additional ceremonies are scheduled at several campuses across the region. The Quad City Times

- ➤ The Quad City Tennis Club in Moline is upgrading its outdoor facility with a new clubhouse and three grass tennis courts that will open July 1. Club director Dylan Wiemers said the clubhouse—built from a former accounting firm—will offer a pro shop, bar, lounge, and seating while non-members will need a guest pass to play. The Dispatch Argus
- ➤ Davenport North head coach David Gamble started the Life is Bigger than Sports soccer event seven years ago (in honor of his daughter Kenzie, who died after a two-year fight with ovarian cancer in December) to unite teams and support a cause. The event has grown from two teams to 12 teams and raised $5300 that will go to the Iowa Dance Marathon for pediatric cancer. KWQC
