COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families in the Quad Cities can enjoy the new YMCA Water Park at The Landing in Bettendorf when it opens Saturday, May 24 with public hours from 1 to 7 p.m. The park is part of a $22.9 million project that features water slides, a lazy river, a kids zone, and swimming lessons for both members and visitors.  Quad Cities Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • InternQC is a new program by the Quad Cities Chamber that connects summer interns with local professionals by hosting four networking events in June and July. Employers must register their interns by Monday, June 2 for a fee of $125 for chamber members or $200 for non-members—events include a kick-off at TBK Sports Complex in Bettendorf.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A longtime Rock Island County employee who retired in June 2024 was arrested Wednesday—an investigation revealed she allegedly stole at least $900,000 from the county.  The Quad City Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bix Beiderbecke Museum said it will close its Redstone building on June 6—starting the deconstruction of exhibits in preparation to relocate and reopen mid-July with a grand opening on July 25 and 26.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Liang Chee Wee is the interim chancellor at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and shared his 42 years in the U.S. and deep ties to his Singaporean heritage. He said his role ends on July 1— and he is open to new opportunities ahead.  The Quad City Times
  • The Davenport Schools Foundation awarded $106,300 in scholarships to 58 graduating seniors in the district this week. The funds, raised from local donations, are set to ease college costs and help students start their future careers — offering new opportunities in education.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • The public is invited to the annual Armed Forces Day Celebration on Rock Island Arsenal today and May 17 with live music, food trucks, military displays, car shows, wrestling, fireworks and running events.
