COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Police departments and Dunkin’ hosted the 11th annual Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser on Friday, May 15 at Dunkin’ locations including Rock Island to support Special Olympics Illinois; donations raised funds for free sports training and health services and came with thank-you items.  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Employers and veterans are invited to Vet TalkX on Wednesday, June 17 at Black Hawk College’s Hawk’s Nest (room 118, Building 4) to learn how hiring veterans benefits local workplaces. The free event runs from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and features keynote Dillon Behr along with other expert speakers.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Amazon cut the ribbon on its last mile facility in Davenport, which now employs about 400 people following its October opening. The move supports local business growth in the area.  The Quad City Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • TV6 personalities were honored for winning the Locals Love Us awards as local fans voted online. First-place winner Morgan Ottier was joined by Erik Maitland, Sharon DeRycke and Theresa Bryant.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate recognized Davenport North and West high schools for registering over 100 eligible seniors, awarding them the Carrie Chapman Catt Award. The recognition encouraged students to engage early in community leadership.  KWQC
  • Rivermont Collegiate School lost accreditation on Tuesday evening when a single complaint led its accreditor to terminate its status. The board said the school remains operational in Bettendorf and is appealing the decision while ensuring students will receive grades, transcripts + diplomas as expected.  KWQC
  • Graduating fine arts seniors at Davenport Central High School gathered at the Performance Arts Center on Thursday, May 14 to sign letters of intent with their colleges. The ceremony marked a key milestone in their journey toward higher education.  The Quad City Times

  • The Nuclear Regulatory Commission held an open house on Thursday at the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station for residents to meet full-time inspectors — agency staff stressed that daily oversight helps ensure public health and safety.  KWQC

  • The Quad City Steamwheelers ended a four game skid by beating the Tucson Sugar Skulls 40 to 38 on May 15. Keyvan Rudd recorded his 100th career touchdown in the contest, boosting the team's momentum.  KWQC
