COMMUNITY NEWS

  • YouthHope expanded into Davenport last summer at 306 Cedar Street in the West End near Smart Middle School, and this summer the faith-based nonprofit will launch a capital campaign to build a new gym and upgrade its center to better serve at-risk youth—focusing its mission on community outreach.  The Dispatch Argus
  • The American Legion Buffalo Bill Post 347, Women’s Auxiliary Unit 347 and the Pleasant Valley School District will host Memorial Day services on May 26 with events starting at Glendale Cemetery and moving to Bridgeview Elementary Gymnasium—where Mayor Dennis Gerard, Iowa lieutenant governor Chris Cournoyer and a local band will participate. Davenport residents can also attend the 106th annual service at Historic Summit Church on Utica Ridge Road at 9 a.m., which will include an honor guard, patriotic activities and fellowship with refreshments.  OurQuadCities
  • First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire welcomed new pastors Rev. Art and Pastor Annabell Blegen on May 12—Mt Sinai Christian Fellowship in Davenport will host a Praise-A-Thon with local gospel artists on May 17. Today, First Presbyterian Church in Davenport holds its Sing My Child spring concert for mental wellness at 4 p.m.—MCC QC will present awards to Viminda Shafer and Tyler Mitchell at 11 a.m., and a free clothing giveaway is set for May 24 in Rock Island.  The Dispatch Argus

CRIME NEWS

  • Cell phone evidence shows that double-murder suspect Adriana Blake left Davenport after she helped start the fire that exposed the bodies of Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith, and her phone returned before authorities arrested her.  The Quad City Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • QC Craft Beer Week will return May 23–30 and kick off Friday, May 23, from (4-7 p.m.) at Bent River Brewing Co. in downtown Moline where guests who buy a pint of QC Ale Trail Ale receive a free commemorative pint glass; the event will run (Memorial Day weekend) and feature special tappings, beer releases and local brewery promotions.  OurQuadCities
  • The Figge Art Museum is hosting a free Glow Up party downtown today from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. to celebrate Leo Villareal's 'Evanescent Field,' a monumental light sculpture that transforms its exterior + the event features live music and food trucks + interactive art activities for all ages.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • On May 16, 2025, racers kicked off the season at Davenport Speedway in chilly weather as Logan Veloz won the IMCA Late Models with a seven-second lead—Brad Dierks, Rance Powell and Donnie Louck also earned wins in the Modified, SportMod and Outlaw Street Stock classes. The night set the stage for more race action as dirt track events will return on May 23.  OurQuadCities
