COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Rotary Club of Bettendorf will host the 20th annual Lobsterfest on June 12 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Waterfront Convention Center, where guests can enjoy a set menu + live auction to benefit local nonprofits including Family Resources.  KWQC
  • Bishop Hill will host its 17th annual Honor Flight Benefit on Saturday, June 13 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Filling Station Restaurant (303 N. Bishop Hill Street), raising funds to support veteran trips to Washington, D.C. and the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.  KWQC
  • Matthew Dosland, a CPC Logistics driver for John Deere, was inducted into the National Private Truck Council’s Driver Hall of Fame. He has driven for 27 years and over 3 million miles without a preventable accident and trains new drivers to stay safe on the road — a milestone honoring his record.  KWQC
  • Hy-Vee will offer a free breakfast for veterans and active-duty service members this Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at stores with hot food service (featuring eggs, biscuits and gravy and hashbrowns).  KWQC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Union leaders and Arconic reached a tentative three-year contract that will give wage increases to workers at Davenport Works and other sites. Informational meetings will be held on Thursday, May 21 at the union hall (880 Devil’s Glen Road) for members to review the proposal before voting.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • InConvenience Inc got a $9,190 grant from the Iowa Department of Agriculture to add an island cooler with Iowa-grown items at Gas Spot - 303 W. Locust St. The cooler will include products from Country View Dairy and Field Day Brewing and is expected to debut within 12 months.  KWQC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Iowa law enforcement teamed with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau to boost seatbelt checks that started Monday and will run until May 31. The campaign seeks to reduce traffic injuries by reminding drivers to buckle up.  KWQC
