CULTURE NEWS

  • Channel Cat Water Taxi launches its 2026 season on Memorial Day weekend and will operate daily until the end of September with weekend-only trips into mid-October. The service features live music & kid-friendly river talks, with tickets sold onboard via cash only or online.  KWQC
  • Channel Cat Water Taxi is returning for the 2026 season with live music sessions on board along the Quad-Cities river. The service promises a fresh ride for passengers seeking a lively local commute.  The Dispatch Argus

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Davenport Community School District has launched PathWise Student Tracking, a system that gives students a QR code lanyard to scan when boarding and leaving buses (trialed at Walcott earlier) so officials can track their rides and boost safety. The program will help ensure students exit at the correct stops.  KWQC
  • Over 500 college aviators (from over 30 colleges) are competing in flight and safety events at SAFECON at Quad Cities International Airport; the conference runs through Saturday.  KWQC
  • Project SEARCH honored seven interns during a graduation ceremony on Wednesday in Davenport as they completed a year-long internship program with local schools (including Davenport Community School District) and senior living facilities; five graduates have already secured jobs.  KWQC
  • Former NFL MVP Ken Anderson is set to speak at Augustana College’s commencement ceremony Saturday. The event will offer graduates a chance to hear from a notable alumnus at his alma mater.  The Dispatch Argus

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois and Iowa departments of transportation narrowed repair and replacement options for the 80-year-old Centennial Bridge connecting Rock Island and Davenport after a public open house was held Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in downtown Rock Island.  KWQC

HEALTH NEWS

  • MercyOne has named Robert Baxter as its new president and CEO, effective June 22. Baxter, a University of Iowa alum from Bon Secours Mercy Health, will lead the health system that employs over 20,000 colleagues + oversees more than 230 clinics and centers across the region.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tournament Chair Andrew Lehman hosted Champions Day on May 19 (with PGA pro Brian Campbell appearing virtually) to preview the 2026 season at TPC Deere Run; the tournament starts July 1 with a champion celebrated July 5 and concert events headlined by Carrie Underwood and Old Dominion.  Quad Cities Business Journal
