COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On May 21, a 45-minute outage left 2,271 Iowa Quad Cities customers without power. Restoration efforts returned service to nearly all+only five remained without power by 11:26 a.m. KWQC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Adriana Blake admitted 'I shot them both' in a video shown Tuesday in a Scott County courtroom—she faces two counts of first-degree murder for the Jan. 15 shooting deaths of Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith. The Quad City Times
- ➤ Two Bettendorf police officers were shot overnight and treated at a hospital (they have been released) and a suspect was also shot and taken to a hospital (an update on his condition is not immediately available). The Dispatch Argus
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ North Scott School District board met May 12 at the Administrative Office and approved several staff changes—retirements, resignations and new role assignments that affect teaching, coaching and support positions. Some changes will take effect in early June while others will begin in the next school year. The Dispatch Argus
- ➤ On May 12, the Davenport Community School District board met in the Jim Hester Board Room at 1702 N. Main St. and approved new contracts for roles in sports, para education and the school newspaper. They also accepted several resignations and terminations—with some changes starting immediately and others effective at the end of the 2024-25 school year, including a retirement on May 7. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 21, 2025, during a trial over city-paid settlements for 2023 harassment claims, Davenport council members and former officials testified they had not seen the demand letters or settlement agreements before the deals were ratified in open session after a closed meeting. Former Administrator Corri Spiegel and ex-city attorney Tom Warner testified that council members learned of the agreements only after they were released by Freedom of Information Act requests—raising questions about whether complete information was provided in advance. - ➤ The Regional Development Authority board awarded $1.9M in Spring grants on May 8 at Rhythm City Casino Resort in Davenport—funds that came from 95 applications totaling over $3.1M to support projects in economic development, arts, education, and human services. The board said Fall Grant applications will open Tuesday, July 15. Quad Cities Business Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday morning, health care leaders held a virtual briefing on proposed Medicaid cuts that could reduce funding for care—threatening millions of Americans including over 700,000 Iowans. Trinity Health and other groups warned that added reporting and eligibility rules may cost local hospitals up to $1 billion a year and force patients to skip needed checkups. The Quad City Times
