Today, the long anticipated YMCA Water Park at The Landing opens in Bettendorf (Communications Director Taylor Bley said the facility will welcome visitors and host programs this summer).
Earlier this month, several local businesses held openings and ribbon cuttings across the Quad-Cities, with Brady St. Blends opening in downtown Davenport, No More Butts Vapor Lounge launching a second Silvis location, and Skinderella's Wonderland Art Collective celebrating its start in LeClaire. Indian Garden Bar and Grill began a new unlimited lunch buffet in Bettendorf, while Moline Library Gardens, Empower House, and Haven Hills Campground held their ribbon cuttings on May 14, 15, and 16 respectively — highlighting a busy period of new business activity.
The state's last witness—police detective Aric Robinson—testified Thursday in the trial against Adriana Blake, who faces charges in the Jan 15 double murder of Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith, and his testimony continued Friday with defense questions.
Police in Davenport are patrolling extra roads this holiday weekend with aircraft watching for speeding, seatbelt violations & other risky driving as more people travel due to lower gas prices.
The National Safety Council reports that Memorial Day and similar holidays have higher road fatality rates than Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Ragged Records will present the jangle pop band The Tubs from the United Kingdom on Friday, June 13 at Rozz Tox located at 2108 3rd Ave in Rock Island; doors open at 7 p.m. and music begins at 8 p.m. The band is touring in support of their new album —Cotton Crown— and will perform alongside opening acts Subatlantic and Camp Regret.
The Scott County Regional Authority said it gave out $1,458,851 in grants to 50 projects that help local people — including Scott County schools, the Figge Art Museum, the Humane Society of Scott County and MEDIC EMS; its total funding now exceeds $102 million since 1991.
The next grant cycle will start in fall with applications available Sept. 1 and due Oct. 1.
On May 9, the Regional Development Authority approved $1,925,670 in spring grants at the Rhythm City Casino Resort in Davenport from 95 applications requesting over $3.1 million.
The grants will support local programs including Community Health Care, Hand in Hand, Humility Homes and Services, the Quad Cities Housing Council, and River Bend Food Bank.
