COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Saturday to open the YMCA Water Park at the Landing, where YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi members entered for free and those under 18 paid $8, adults $14, and families $20. The park operated from 1—7 p.m. KWQC
- ➤ Several roads in the Village of East Davenport will be closed tomorrow from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the Kwik Star Criterium—drivers are advised to take alternate routes to avoid delays. KWQC
- ➤ Bethany for Children and Families named Lara Ingram as its new president/CEO. Ingram — who has over 20 years of non-profit experience — will start in July when Bill Steinhauser retires at the end of June after a 29-year run. OurQuadCities
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Scott County Attorney Kelly Cunningham rested the state's case on Friday, May 23, against Adriana Blake, who is accused of first-degree murder for the January 15 shooting deaths of Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith at 5210 N. Division St—defense witnesses then presented expert testimony on addiction, abuse and trauma bonding. The Quad City Times
- ➤ A 25-year-old man from Bettendorf was arrested after a 2024 shooting on North Brady Street that injured two people and faces felony charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and willful injury, and he is held on a $25,000 bond with his preliminary hearing set for May 30 in Scott County Court. - ➤ Paul Norton Elementary School opened a new outdoor learning space that lets students learn by exploring nature and participating in creative lessons. The area includes a memorial for the late Jennifer Colarusso (a valued staff member) and is designed to serve both educational and community needs. KWQC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Quad Cities Transit Summit 2025 will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, June 2 at the Davenport Main Library (Meeting Room B, 321 Main St.) in Davenport. The Bi-State Regional Commission will host the event to gather public input on travel choices and guide improvements to regional transportation services. OurQuadCities
- ➤ Iowa National Guard Delta Company soldiers will be escorted by Davenport police as they leave the Armory after a send-off ceremony set for May 28 at 6:30 p.m.—the public can gather at 4210 N. Brady, 1111 W. Kimberly Rd and 101 W. Kimberly Rd to support the event. KWQC
- ➤ Governor Kim Reynolds said she will focus on property tax reform after the legislative session ended without a tax bill. She said she will spend the summer meeting with Iowans and working with her DOGE Task Force—seeking ways to lower high property taxes that fund local services. The Quad City Times
