  • John Deere, which operates a factory in Davenport, reported Q2 net income of $1.773 billion on May 3 as sales in its construction, forestry, and small ag divisions rose while production equipment sales fell. The company completed a $439 million acquisition of Tenna LLC on Feb. 18 to enhance tech.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Local food truck owner Martin Garcia Pena said rising gas prices and longer travel times between Rock Island and Bettendorf are pushing up operating costs — his business, La Flama on Wheels, raised meal prices slightly and added chips as an incentive to keep customers coming.  KWQC
  • Voy 61 Drive In Theater received a $20,000 grant from Main Street America + American Express and is one of 505 small businesses nationwide to benefit from the funding.  The Dispatch Argus

  • Denis Glynn celebrates 50 years in nutrition services at Bettendorf High School. The beloved former student and long-serving staff member will be honored during an employee recognition celebration on June 4.  KWQC
  • Rivermont Collegiate said Tuesday that its accreditation by Cognia remains in effect to ensure uninterrupted service for students. The private school will have its next review in 2029 despite appealing a decision to end its ISACS accreditation on June 30.  KWQC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Iowa DNR advises campers to buy local firewood to help keep forests safe from pests such as emerald ash borer and oak wilt; officials say use firewood at parks + campgrounds and burn it on site.  KWQC

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Residents can look up Saturday night to see a rare Blue Moon rising above the Mississippi River Valley, with peak illumination at 3:45 a.m. Sunday. The event is unique (the micromoon appears smaller and dimmer) as it is the second full moon in May.  KWQC
  • The Rock Island County Animal Care and Control Shelter in Moline is showcasing Stuart, a fully trained one-year-old pet who came in as a stray. Community members can call 309-558-3647 for adoption details + volunteer opportunities.  KWQC

  • Famous wrestler John Cena visited Davenport on Tuesday at Black and Brave Wrestling Academy and 392 Caffe. He said it was his first visit and praised the city's kind people, according to 5th Ward Alderman John Blunk.  KWQC
