CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Leisa A. Streeter, a former Rock Island County employee from New Windsor who retired in 2024, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges including theft, forgery, money laundering & official misconduct for allegedly stealing over $900,000 through a fraudulent bank account, and she is on home confinement with her next hearing set for June 27th. - ➤ Two Davenport men were arrested after police responded at 11:56 p.m. on May 26 to a burglary at 3111 Brady Street—Andrew Aldrich faces felony third-degree burglary charges with a $6,000 bond and a hearing on June 6, while Dustin Runkle was released on his own recognizance with a hearing set for June 13. - ➤ The Putnam Museum and Science Center in Davenport will hold Dino Days on May 31 and June 1. The event will feature a Jurassic-Style Park on the Lardner Balcony—offering dino crafts, fossil digs, themed activities and a special museum announcement. Quad Cities Business Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On June 7, the Davenport Public Library will host a Touch-A-Truck event that will let kids explore vehicles from local fire, police, and public works departments—library staff will also sign up participants for the Summer Reading Challenge. Beginning June 1, the library will launch its reading program with daily quests that earn entries for prize drawings and a free tote bag for the first 1,500 finishers. KWQC
- ➤ Four inmates graduated from Augustana College at East Moline Correctional Center during its first in-person commencement ceremony for the grant-funded Bachelor of Arts program in communication studies — a program that began in 2021 to help inmates rebuild their lives. The graduates said the degree showed them they are more than their conviction and the college plans to expand majors and internship opportunities for future students. KWQC
- ➤ Olivia Allen covered high school graduation events at Moline High School on May 23 and North Scott on May 25 at Vibrant Arena — a large venue hosting nearly 500 graduates.
