  • Cops N’ Bobbers returns for its fourth year this Saturday at Lost Grove Lake in Eldridge, giving kids 15 and under a chance to fish with officers (and conservation partners) while fishing poles, bait and water safety materials are provided on site.  KWQC
  • Quad City Bank & Trust sponsored the Virtual Arconic Jr. Bix by offering free race registrations and high-quality running shoes to fifth graders at Madison Elementary School on May 27, helping students prepare for upcoming races including the Quad-City Times Bix 7 on July 25 downtown.  Quad Cities Business Journal

  • At the Science Olympiad National Tournament in Los Angeles, West High School earned fourth in Division C while Hamilton Middle School finished 20th in Division B, reflecting strong academic competition among local schools.  The Quad City Times
  • Bettendorf School Board rejected a school funding resolution after debates over vouchers and public education split board members plus community voices. Officials say the vote reflects deep concerns over funding priorities.  The Dispatch Argus

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Experts say local asphalt parking lots boost heat and send polluted stormwater runoff into creeks plus add to flood risks. Community leaders are testing fixes like permeable pavement, rain gardens and more trees to lower heat and water pollution.  KWQC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The FAA awarded a $3.3 million grant to support Phase 2 of Quad Cities International Airport's terminal upgrade, Project Gateway. Construction began earlier this spring and will cost $19 million over 18 months.  KWQC
  • Train traffic will stop today from 4:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to allow officials to lift an 89,000-pound section of Main Street Landing’s pedestrian bridge 40-feet over the CPKC rail line as part of plans to transform a nearby park into a public space.  KWQC

  • Local health experts warn tick season is near so remove ticks promptly to avoid illnesses such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever (using insecticide with deet is suggested) and contact a doctor if you notice symptoms like rash, fever, or joint pain.  KWQC
