COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A few dozen residents gathered Wednesday, May 28 for a vigil at 324 Main St. — the site of a deadly collapse two years ago that killed three men — to mark the anniversary and call for accountability over unsafe living conditions.  The Dispatch Argus
  • The inaugural Mississippi Valley Dragon Boat Festival is planned for Saturday, Sept. 20 at West Lake in Davenport—hosted by the Cancer Support Community Iowa and NW Illinois at Gilda’s Club—and will feature dragon boat races to support cancer survivors.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Closing arguments began Thursday morning in the trial of Adriana Blake—charged with two counts of first-degree murder and robbery in the deaths of Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith on Jan. 14.  KWQC
  • Larry Leroy Knotts Jr, a 61-year-old Burlington man, was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison after selling about 125 grams of meth to a confidential source between November and December 2023—he will serve a five-year term of supervised release after his prison sentence.  KWQC
  • On May 12, Davenport Police requested help from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office after officers responded at 3:13 a.m. to a domestic disturbance on Jersey Ridge Road where gunshots were heard from inside a home, and 26-year-old Davionce Lackey fired her handgun, prompting officers to return fire; Lackey was treated for her injuries and later released while the two veteran officers are on critical-incident leave pending an investigation.  OurQuadCities

  • NDIA Iowa-Illinois chapter will host its 16th Annual Midwest Government Contracting Symposium on Tuesday, June 3 and Wednesday, June 4 at the Vibrant Arena at the Mark in Moline—focusing on how global events affect Defense Department strategies and offering networking and contracting insights—and registration remains open.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Davenport announced that local groups stepped in to fund eight AmeriCorps positions when federal grants were cut—providing $920,000 to keep five full-time and three seasonal staff for summer camp programs. The funding will allow the staff to complete their service commitments this summer and support local education programs.  KWQC
