COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Davenport officially opened Emerson Place Alley on Thursday afternoon as part of the downtown master plan—upgrading the alley between Iowa Street and Perry Street with iron gates and overhead hanging lights to honor its Motor Row and Bucktown roots. Local officials said a $180,000 investment funded the locally made project. KWQC
- ➤ King’s Harvest No Kill Shelter had a malfunction in its air-conditioning while setting up for summer heat, leaving cats and staff without cool air although dogs got some relief from one donated unit. The shelter still needs donations of $1,800—donations to complete repairs and support foster and adoption programs for its animals. KWQC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ TV6 Investigates obtained a report showing police chased owner Andrew Wold on June 6 for his cellphones after the downtown building collapsed in 2023 that killed three people—no criminal charges were filed despite interviews with city officials about the incident. TV6 Investigates will provide live coverage today at 8:30 p.m. on streaming and news platforms as the review of the report continues. KWQC
- ➤ After closing arguments wrapped up + the jury began deliberations on charges against Adriana Blake for the 2024 shooting deaths of Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith. The Dispatch Argus
- ➤ Christopher Behal was sentenced on Friday to life in prison without parole—with an additional two-year penalty for domestic abuse assault—after a Scott County jury convicted him of first-degree murder in the 2024 killing of Taylor Escontrias at her Park View apartment. The Dispatch Argus
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ 161 soldiers from Iowa National Guard units in Davenport set off to the Middle East for Operation Inherent Resolve during two ceremonies held earlier this week—an effort that supports ongoing military operations. They left to join a deployment meant to further U.S. military objectives in the region. The Dispatch Argus
- ➤ Community members gathered at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds to send off 101 Iowa National Guard troops who were deployed to the Middle East on Thursday. A separate ceremony at the Davenport Armory on Wednesday saw 60 soldiers prepare to work with coalition partners in Operation Inherent Resolve. KWQC
