BUSINESS NEWS

  • HomeRun Tacos is a new food truck that has started serving customers in Davenport. The business will offer tacos and plans to bring a fresh dining option to local residents.  The Dispatch Argus

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Putnam Museum and Science Center is planning to bring an adult Triceratops skeleton to Davenport as a team of 10 leaves June 22 from a dig in Lusk, Wyoming to start the process of bringing it home. The skeleton will be the only complete dinosaur fossil in Iowa when it is installed in 2027 — a permanent part of the museum’s collection.  KWQC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School districts across the Quad Cities are offering free summer meals for children and teens under 18 as part of federal and state food programs aimed at supporting low-income families. Local sites in Bettendorf, Davenport, East Moline, Moline and Rock Island serve meals on weekdays at set times (for example, breakfast begins as early as 7:40 a.m. and lunch runs until about 1 p.m.) to meet nutritional needs during the summer.  The Dispatch Argus
  • Many Quad-Cities students can join summer learning programs from Black Hawk College, Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, and local organizations to help prevent summer slide while enjoying camps in art, STEM, and enrichment classes. Moline High School earned a national PLTW honor for its computer science and engineering courses and local students received scholarship awards—efforts that will support their future education and career paths.  The Dispatch Argus
  • Quad-Cities education programs are offering summer learning to help students avoid the summer slide with camps, SAT prep, and classes available from Black Hawk College, Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, Spring Forward and other groups. A Deere grant will fund Camp Invention at local schools (Ridgewood Elementary June 2-6, Rock Island Center June 9-13, and Jane Addams Elementary Aug 4-8) to give kids hands-on learning experiences.  The Quad City Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Scott County Conservation Board has opened its aquatics facilities for summer — the park pool, beach and boathouse run on set schedules from June 2 through Labor Day. After June 7 the pool and beach will operate from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the boathouse from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with new rental options like paddle boards and mini pontoons added.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • John Deere extended its sponsorship of the John Deere Classic through 2030, keeping the tournament in the Quad Cities. The deal also retains its role as the official partner for PGA TOUR equipment and services.  KWQC
