ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Bar and grill owners in Davenport said a car crashed and rolled on its roof Sunday when turning from West Kimberly Road onto 60th Street — crews worked to flip the car while the owners urge a lower speed limit to prevent future accidents.  KWQC
  • The Department of Public Safety released portions of the investigative report on the May 28 collapse at 324 Main St in Davenport—omitting interview summaries and other key exhibits—and the move followed months of records requests that critics say leave vital details missing.  The Dispatch Argus

  • Taryn Edgin, a third-generation Deere worker, became president and director of community relations at the John Deere Foundation in early May—she will focus on boosting community giving and supporting employees amid ongoing economic challenges.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Police in Davenport arrested 18 year old Alyx R. Hinton of Minnesota—accused of first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon—after first responders found 28 year old Douglas C. Meier with gunshot wounds on the 1700 block of Gaines Street on Sunday; Meier died at Mercy One Genesis Hospital East Campus.  KWQC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Litigation continues over The Davenport collapse that killed three people in 2023 and left many residents displaced, as about 40 new short-form petitions have been added to a consolidated lawsuit against several defendants. City officials have amended building codes and approved a rent abatement policy—measures aimed at boosting oversight and tenant protection in the wake of the collapse.  The Quad City Times
  • The Iowa Department of Public Safety released parts of a report on the May 28 collapse at 324 Main St. in Davenport after records requests, but it kept some interview summaries secret—citing state exemptions.
