BUSINESS NEWS

  • James I. Sears, chairman and CEO of Sears Manufacturing Company, and Beth and Scott Tinsman of Twin State Technical Services were inducted into the Quad Cities Area Business Hall of Fame on Thursday night, June 12, in downtown Bettendorf — the event honored local business leaders for their long-standing impact in our region.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • Russell Development announced that construction began on a new 10,000-square-foot retail center in Birchwood South that will house Burn Boot Camp and Tropical Smoothie Cafe. The center is located just south of Panda Express in the growing 53rd Street and Utica Ridge road corridor—3,700 square feet of retail space remain available for future tenants.  Quad Cities Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A Davenport man, Sylvis B. Nelson, was convicted of second-degree murder—he killed his live-in girlfriend Cobrianda Anderson on March 24—and his sentencing is set for September 18 at the Scott County Courthouse.  OurQuadCities

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Davenport City Council voted down changes to the DREAM home renovation program—launched in 2019, the project helped over 220 homeowners improve exteriors in central Davenport.  The Dispatch Argus
  • Nine firefighters were sworn in during the city council meeting on Wednesday as they took the oath to serve and protect Davenport. They join eight new firefighters added last summer — a move to bolster the local fire department.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Race Director Eric Sarno said that after organizing the event for 26 years he will hold the final Quad Cities Triathlon at West Lake Park in Davenport. Packet pickup occurs today at the park—and the race starts tomorrow at 7 a.m. with a 600-yard swim, 15-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run drawing hundreds of athletes from the region.  KWQC
