CRIME NEWS

  • Luisito Espanola, 65, was sentenced to 32 months in federal prison for charges of wire fraud & money laundering after defrauding Moline out of $404,764.59 in 2020; he will report to the Federal Bureau of Prisons on June 23.  OurQuadCities

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Roland Harper, 18, received an award on June 12 for completing the weeklong CRE8 Labs summer program at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges' Urban Campus in downtown Davenport — he said the program taught him valuable lessons and he plans to study biology at Scott Community College and St. Ambrose University.  Quad Cities Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Davenport City Council extended the deadline by 30 days for transferring the Annie Wittenmyer campus to allow federal agencies more time to finish an environmental review that is delaying a $742,000 loan+developers face losing low-income housing tax credits if funds do not come through soon. City officials may consider alternative funding if the review delays endanger the $20 million project to convert 14 historic buildings into about 46 housing units.  The Quad City Times

  • Today ImpactLife celebrates World Blood Donor Day by thanking volunteer donors and inviting new donors to help keep local blood supplies ready for hospitals.   • MercyOne Genesis urges men to get regular health screenings this June to check for high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and cancers such as colon, prostate and lung.
