COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ County fair season is back in Illinois and Iowa with many events scheduled in the KWQC viewing area. Fairs include ongoing ones like the Henry County Fair in Cambridge (June 17 to June 22) and upcoming events such as the Rock Island County Fair in Moline (July 15 to July 19) and the Mississippi Valley Fair in Davenport (July 29 to August 3). - ➤ The Humane Society introduced Foodle, a sweet pet who was moved from the shelter to foster care last September because he got stressed — he has learned new tricks and positive behaviors with his foster mom. KWQC
- ➤ Jerry Lack has been named the first executive director of the Hilltop CDC—an organization formed in April by Augustana College and Rock Island to boost growth in College Hill. The demolition of the former Curry Out QC building on June 16 cleared space for new development, and local leaders expect his deep roots will spark community investment. Quad Cities Business Journal

- ➤ On June 12th and 13th, a joint operation in Louisa County removed 88 teenagers from a faith-based recovery camp—alleged abuse concerns prompted the action and all children were later reunited with their parents. The Dispatch Argus

- ➤ Rocktober Fest will feature Sebastian Bach and Slaughter at the Rhythm City Casino Event Center on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.—ticket pre-sale begins June 19 at 10 a.m. and full ticket sales start on June 20. OurQuadCities
- ➤ The Putnam Museum and Science Center (1717 W. 12th Street) in Davenport is offering free trolley tours to teach about the local Civil Rights history, with the first tour starting June 23rd at 5:30 p.m. Ryan Saddler from St. Ambrose University will lead the tours that visit key sites (Charles and Ann Toney’s former home, LeClaire Park Bandshell, Natatorium Public Pool and the Barrio community) on select Mondays through the fall, with bicycle tours planned for September and October. - ➤ The Government Bridge will be closed for cleaning on Thursday, June 19 from 6:30 a.m. — 6:30 p.m., blocking pedestrian and vehicle traffic as stated by Rock Island Arsenal. The Moline bridge will have intermittent single lane closures on Friday, June 20 from 8:30 a.m. — 4 p.m., with Saturday, June 21 serving as a back-up in case of weather delays. OurQuadCities
- ➤ James Woods, a Davenport floor-installation business owner, withdrew his bid for 8th Ward—he will run as an at-large alderman instead. The Quad City Times
