COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Food Truck Fight organizers said that this year’s event will feature 13 food trucks serving unique cuisines for the first time during its eighth edition. The event will take place on July 19 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Rest Belt— the winner will be crowned at 7 p.m.  KWQC

CRIME NEWS

  • During testimony on Wednesday, Devon Braet's attorney stated that Adriana Blake pulled the trigger that killed Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith in the 2024 double homicide case.  The Quad City Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Figge Art Museum in Davenport announced four new summer exhibitions that will feature German Expressionism, cat-inspired art, community murals and a look at its historic design. Three exhibits will open June 21 while the Model Museum exhibit will open July 1 — offering local visitors a range of creative experiences.  Quad Cities Business Journal
  • The Putnam Museum and Science Center will start free trolley tours on Monday, June 23 at 5:30 p.m.—Ryan Saddler of St. Ambrose University will guide groups to local civil rights sites, including former activist homes and the LeClaire Park Bandshell. Space is limited to 20 seats and registration is required to join the tour.  Quad Cities Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 16, about a dozen community leaders met at Community Health Care in Rock Island to discuss proposed Medicaid cuts with U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen—he warned that the changes to Medicaid and SNAP benefits in the bill could reduce access to care for many, including new mothers and mental health patients.  The Quad City Times
  • A congressional bill may cut funds for SNAP, Medicaid, and Medicare—risking enough food for 9.5 billion meals a year and affecting health care for millions. Local food banks warn the cuts could impact 260,000 Iowa families who depend on these programs.  KWQC

SPORTS NEWS

  • PGA Tour golfer Ben Griffin, with two wins and eight top-10 finishes this year, committed to play in the John Deere Classic for a second year. He will compete from July 2-6 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis — he finished tied for fifth last year — and his strong season makes him a key player in upcoming events.  Quad Cities Business Journal
